Curious minds want to know. The truth is often hiding in plain sight. The good news is that in an era of deception and misdirection, once the sly-to-bold methods of propagandists and advertisers are known, they can often be spotted. Manufactured housing offers several examples of paltering, posturing, preening, and projection. A review of facts helps set the stage for an ‘aha!’ awakening and understanding. The lack of affordable housing in the U.S. is measured in the millions of units. Depending on the source, the U.S. housing shortage is from 3+ to 8+ million units. Given the large cost savings between conventional construction and modern HUD Code manufactured homes, those millions of needed homes should or could mean that manufactured housing ought to be soaring beyond conventional building in production.
Indeed, that notion that manufactured housing was poised to surpass conventional building was part of the view of stated by Eric Belsky while he was still with Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) at the dawn of the 21st century. Despite that Belsky’s informed view, the reality has been that manufactured housing declined instead of rose. On a percentage or unit basis, manufactured home production is only shadow of where the industry was in the mid-to-late 1990s. While the industry is up from its 2009-2010 low water mark, too few industry outsiders or manufactured housing insiders have carefully researched and then publicly exposed some surprising factors why the MHVille industry crash of 2009-2010 occurred. It is worth mentioning some of the numbers of relevant issues that MHProNews has probed since it launched. Several of those topics have ‘gone viral’ on manufactured housing specific or even broader mainstream news topics. A few of those will be provided as part of this celebration of the 13th anniversary of publishing and the start of our 14th year on providing “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use”©.
It should be stressed that those ‘viral’ topics have stood the test of time. No third-party, including the parties that may have been named in those reports, have attempted to publicly challenge the evidence and the thesis of the analysis of the facts. Some of these reports as therefore as relevant today as they were when they were published. Many believe that the U.S. is living in an Orwellian era of paltering, posturing, and projecting in a believable fashion. Be that as it may, this publication has earned a reputation for being factual, evidence-based and which does not back down from reports on often powerful people, companies, public officials and what would otherwise be ‘behind the scenes’ revelations that may not be found elsewhere. Thus, a motto “Intelligence for your MHLife” © is earned and apt.
After weeks of pre-launch preparations, on 10.15.2009 what is now known as ManufacturedHomeProNews.com (MHProNews.com) launched. In our third year of online publishing, ManufacturedHomeLivingNews.com (MHLivingNews.com) launched. That pair of seminal publications are mostly open and free to the public. These publications and/or our co-founder have been cited by government agencies, nonprofits, in university research, by mainstream media and others.
Under the original name of MHMarketingSalesManagement.com (MHMSM.com) which was later rebranded as ManufacturedHomeProNews.com (MHProNews.com long aimed at sharing positive evidence-based truths and sobering realities in our day-by-day telling of the manufactured home industry’s authentic story. It is worth noting that the MHProNews and related moniker has been used as the primary name for the bulk of our publication’s history.
Readers like you have made MHProNews the demonstrably largest and runaway most read trade media in manufactured housing’s modern history.
Even the first years of original reports and commentaries can claim significant achievements like the revival of the Louisville Manufactured Housing Show after it had declined and was finally cancelled. Thus, the MHMSM (MHMarketingSalesManagement.com) tag line of “Innovation, Information, and Inspiration for Industry Professionals” © was apparently fulfilled by an audience that hungered for good news that made a difference for operations. That positive difference was publicly acknowledged by scores of individuals. Some of those who praised what is now MHProNews will be shown following the features below.
Similarly, educational events that MHProNews organized truly informed professionals with proven methods that are ethical and profitable. Attendees often gave rousing endorsements.
MHProNews has thousands of articles. So MHProNews is quite apparently the largest site in manufactured home trade media. It is no surprise that it is also the most-read in MHVille. Among the reasons for heavy engagment could be the diversity of topics, but also a willingness to revisit specific issues of ongoing relevance. Those issues range from statistical reviews to controversial topics that few if any others in MHVille probe or investigate as deeply as MHProNews does. Because curious minds want to know, so far in the last 12 months MHProNews main (there are 11 other) cPanel server data says
- there have been some 12474284 pageviews by 1192832 visitors.
- For an industry that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) says has some 75,000 full time equivalent employees, that works out to be a stunning 10.46 pageviews per visitor. There is demonstrably nothing else remotely like MHProNews and our MHLivingNews sister site. While MHLivingNews publishes far fewer articles, numbers of those get even more engagement by visitors than MHProNews obtains.
As a disclosure, some of those pageviews are going to be from readers who open an image in a new window (a new page) to see that graphic in a larger size. That said, that is still a strong indicator of engagement that mainstream media routinely fails to achieve. In contrast, CNN or other mainstream news sites may get 3 to 4 pageviews per visit.
Because evidence, facts, and sources are provided in years of reports with expert commentary – i.e.: making “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use” © a reality, not just a slick sounding slogan – readers spend more time and gather more insights than other sources provide.
Some examples of topics that have ‘gone viral’ and still get near or top ranking on Google or other search engines are the examples shown below. Note: to expand the size of the graphics herein see the tips below the image.
That the moat is a relevant topic in MHVille one need not look beyond pro-Buffett-Berkshire sources such as Bud Labitan or GuruFocus. That noted, as the above search reflects, on this date (and hundreds of others before…) MHProNews/MHLivingNews are at or near the top on the issue. This sheds light on our dominating traffic and engagement in MHVille trade media.
Another hot topic in recent years was the viral but arguably misnamed “Mobile Homes” video by a left-leaning satirist – HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Millions watched live and some 9 million more watched the YouTube video. So, what are the top articles on that topical search?
One of the most infamous remarks about modern manufactured homes was the one from Clinton/Democratic strategist James Carville, shown below. Look how highly our publication ranks on this search, even years after the report was published? The willingness of our trade media to examine ‘sensitive’ or politically charged topics for some helps explain the enduring popularity of MHProNews and our MHLivingNews sister site.
Despite the fact that it was a hot topic at the time (and since), the top MHVille trade media ranking for the Gary Rivlin “The Cold Hard Lessons of Mobile Home U” New York Times article outranks Rolfe’s own website. These spotlighted articles and others are linked below ICYMI, or just want a refresher on topics that are still being researched and read by numbers of Americans.
Some explosive topics, such as ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein by personalities involved or invested in manufactured housing, have been most prominently reported here, sometimes no place else in MHVille trade media. This is but one example that follows involving Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, both of whom hold large blocks of stock in the parent company of Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corporation, and Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance (VMF) among other well-known brands in manufactured housing. So why are others too timid to explore these issues?
While controversy obviously brings visits and eyeballs as the first link below reflects so too does positive news about mobile and manufactured homes which reflect on the industry’s potential. The 2nd and 3rd items below reflect how both the ‘all’ search or the ‘news’ search often leads to MHProNews and/or to a MHProNews adverting client, namely, the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR). MHProNews/MHLivingNews is proven to be able to drive traffic and business for clients, as the Louisville and Tunica show events both powerfully demonstrated.
MHProNews sources from mainstream as well as contrarians. The facts and evidence are compared and analyzed in expert commentary that are popular with readers. Some are so popular on MHProNews that our site’s Google ranking outperforms that of the original publisher, as is the case from this example from lifelong Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, and son of the late Senator Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy.”
Among the ‘red hot’ reports over the years have been the following. Note as a disclosure previously stated in some of our previous reviews of top articles for a period, some high-ranking items are not shown for proprietary reasons. For example. An article that may be viewed as a ‘pitch’ for a service provider is but one of several ‘top’ read articles for several years. While evidence based and relevant to apparently large numbers of readers month after month for years, it doubtlessly benefits the professional who penned it. Good content is a magnet for readers.
A related anniversary report is linked below. That linked article follows this list.
The article linked below is among the top ranked article every published on MHProNews. The readership levels were so high that it clearly indicated that most readers had to be non-MHPros.
The article above drew an attempted defense by Andy Gedo. Here is how that defense played out. MHProNews welcomes public discussion and debate on key issues, but often others decline such engagement.
When someone takes the time to pull back the veil on those topics and others published on MHProNews and/or MHLivingNews, a picture begins to emerge. Borrowing the language used by Minneapolis Federal Reserve researchers that include James A. “Jim” Schmitz Jr. on manufactured housing, ‘sabotaging monopoly’ tactics have been deployed. Those sabotaging tactics happen to fit the narrative of self-proclaimed longtime Warren Buffett fan Robin Harding in the Financial Times.
It is putting the evidence of sometimes puzzling pieces of information together that has made and kept MHProNews the runaway #1 trade media serving what we loving refer to as MHVille.
There is more, new, and different to come. See the article linked below.
To get more positive reports like the ones linked below, to get manufactured housing to grow back to the 200,000, 300,000, half-a-million or more new homes produced in a year levels, the underlying issues that keep manufactured housing underperforming must be addressed. On several of those issues, MHProNews is leading the charge. When it comes to spotlighting the important work of MHARR, which began long before they became an advertiser, no one in MHVille has given MHARR’s research, reports, and expert commentary more digital ink than MHProNews.
Our sincere thanks to all of our readers, sources, sponsors, clients (visible and invisible) which have made MHProNews and MHLivingNews possible. Above all, we thank God for the inspirations and prayers answered time and again.
As battle-tested proven, true believers in manufactured housing, no one in MHVille today – no one – has demonstrably provided more “Industry News, Tips, and Views Pros Can Use” that MHProNews. As year fourteen of publishing is underway, with God’s help, the best from us and for MHVille are yet to come.
Programming note: a look back to the accomplishments as well as to the future will be part of our Sunday weekly headlines in review here on MHProNews. Don’t miss it.
