“Shocking.” “Must see.” The John Potash documentary: “Drugs as Weapons Against Us tells how scores of undercover U.S. Intelligence agents used drugs in the targeting of leftist leaders from SDS to the Black Panthers, Young Lords, Latin Kings, and the Occupy Movement.” So says Amazon’s introduction to the movie, which can be accessed via Amazon Prime free at this time (go to search tool), or for however long YouTube leaves the version posted below intact. While the multiple-award winning documentary does indeed look at the SDS, Black Panthers, Young Lords, Latin Kings, and the Occupy movements, it is not only ‘leftists’ that were, or are, the targets of various iterations of CIA and FBI operations used to target U.S. citizens domestically in various efforts to manipulate American society, politics, and events. This is a thought-provoking change of pace that nevertheless sheds light on what the reality, conspiracies (real or imagined), and other factors that are background to the U.S. economy, social, spiritual, political and other influences in which MHVille professionals operate.
Part I
Some of the 5-star reviews by viewers include these remarks (typos in the original): “Fascinating facts! Well researched and believable!” “Shocking, it’s alot of information to take in. Really makes you think about what’s going on right now.” “A must watch! Researching about the killing of John Lennon there was a “Conspiracy theory” that just confirmed to be the true so I need up looking for the John L. Potash documentary! Makes you wonder really in who we must trust! I mean apparently we have no choices.”
IMDb’s introduction says: “Evidence supports that the CIA manipulated musicians and activists to promote drugs for social control, particularly regarding the Civil Rights and anti-war movements. Some musicians that resisted these manipulations were killed.” Note that IMDb is owned by Amazon, which along with the left-leaning Washington Post, are centi-billionaire Jeff Bezos enterprises.

IMDb goes on to say about the “Storyline” that: “Drugs as Weapons Against Us presents evidence that the CIA’s Project MK-Ultra manipulated musicians and activists to promote drugs for social control, particularly regarding the Civil Rights and anti-war movements. Evidence further supports that intelligence agents murdered some of these musicians and activists when they resisted intelligence manipulations. U.S. intelligence targeted musicians such as Tupac Shakur, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix, as well the anti-war SDS and The Black Panthers. America and Britain’s wealthiest families had a history of drug trafficking and opium wars against China. The American families’ benefactors then elicited the CIA and Pentagon’s aid in launching America’s longest wars in the top heroin-producing poppy field regions of Vietnam and Afghanistan. The CIA also focused their covert operations on control of the top cocaine-producing regions in Central and South America. The CIA further used LSD and other drugs to divert anti-war movements.”
A featured critical review dumps on the film with these words: “Want to understand how conspiracy propaganda is made? Watch this. This is a great example of how conspiracy propaganda is made. It seems to be well researched. But in its smoothness, it lulls you into ignoring what should be obvious — proving the details and substantiating the linkages.” So, as in so many things in modern life, there are those who jeer as well as cheer the credibility of the production.
That said, even a few internet searches can quickly yield support for several of the films key claims. For example, per left-leaning Wikipedia: “Project MKUltra (or MK-Ultra) was an illegal human experimentation program designed and undertaken by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)12. The program was intended to develop procedures and identify drugs that could be used during interrogations to weaken people and force confessions through brainwashing and psychological torture1. The CIA conducted hundreds of clandestine experiments, sometimes on unwitting U.S. citizens, to assess the potential use of LSD and other drugs for mind control, information gathering, and psychological torture2.”
Regarding COINTELPro and the Church Committee, Wikipedia said: “The Church Committee (formally the United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities) was a US Senate select committee in 1975 that investigated abuses by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Chaired by Idaho Senator Frank Church (D–ID), the committee was part of a series of investigations into intelligence abuses in 1975, dubbed the “Year of Intelligence”, including its House counterpart, the Pike Committee, and the presidential Rockefeller Commission. The committee’s efforts led to the establishment of the permanent US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
The most shocking revelations of the committee include Operation MKULTRA, which involved the drugging and torture of unwitting US citizens as part of human experimentation on mind control;[1][2] COINTELPRO, which involved the surveillance and infiltration of American political and civil-rights organizations;[3] and Family Jewels, a CIA program to covertly assassinate foreign leaders.[4][5][6][7]”
In the context of the Young Lords and in other places, housing and other economic, social, political, and spiritual issues becomes part of the backdrop of this story. The full-length video is found (so long as YouTube doesn’t pull it) as posted below.
From John Potash’s website: “Drugs as Weapons Against Us meticulously details how a group of opium-trafficking families came to form an American oligarchy and eventually achieved global dominance. They directed the CIA in operations such as MK-Ultra, pushing LSD and other drugs on leftist leaders and left-leaning populations at home and abroad.”
MHProNews asked Bing’s AI search function this question:
> “What’s the scoop on the John Potash Book and documentary Drugs as Weapons Against Us?”

Part II Additional Information with More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary
Potash’s documentary narrative includes early in the movie insights into the British involvement in the Opium Wars with China in the 1800s. While some of us (this writer included) learned about the Opium Wars in middle or high school, others may not have had the benefit of that information. So, MHProNews asked Bing’s AI search function this question:
> “Give an overview of the opium wars between Britian and China.”
As a follow up:
> “Did the history of the opium wars influence or inspire China’s use of fentanyl and other drugs against the U.S.?”
Another follow up with Bing’s AI was this inquiry.
> “To what extent is regulatory capture a factor by special interests in the operation of the CIA or FBI?”
Longtime readers of MHProNews may recall the popular report on the ties between big tech and big media and the CIA and other U.S. intelligence services. Drugs as Weapons Against Us is hardly the only evidence-based thesis that our society is being manipulated by a combination of so-called special interests that represent “the Establishment” and government agencies.
Black leaders that include Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X are included in the documentary. MHProNews has explored them previously as well.

There are those on various sides of the left-right divide that have come to believe that a variety of tools are used to disrupt our society in a manner that pits people and groups against each other. Doing so, per the views of some, makes the population easier for “the Establishment” financial and political elites to manipulate and control. Since such thinking is often denounced as being ‘conspiracy theories,’ it may cause some to fail to peer into the evidence for these claims.
This question was put to Bing AI.
