Even though the House of Representatives voted to end HUD’s Short Refi program, according to a report on Housingwire.com, 23 lenders have signed up to participate in the program. This includes five of the largest lenders in the U.S. HUD had received only 44 applications when the House decided to terminate the program. As of March 11, 387 applications had been received. House Financial Services Chairman Spencer Bachus (R.-Ala.) said the government borrows 42 cents for every dollar it spends, a cost our children and grandchildren will have to pay. Democrats want to have the program improved instead of terminated.
