Following the continuing saga of survivors of the Butte and Valley wildfires in Northern California as MHProNews last posted Oct. 23, 2015, record-bee reports the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has identified the Clearlake Resort and Campground near Lakeport as a site that will accommodate 40 manufactured homes.
Another location is near lake Tahoe, and while that is awaiting confirmation, Hoberg’s Resort on Cobb Mountain has been rejected as a housing possibility due to hazardous debris issues after the fire destroyed most of the facility, according to FEMA external affairs specialist Stephen Solomon. FEMA has 100 fully furnished, temporary manufactured homes in a staging area near Sacramento that will be used as needed. Two homes have been sited on private property but have yet to be occupied.
The MHProNews post from Oct. 23 indicated $7.49 million disaster recovery funds had been disbursed, but that number has since grown to nearly $10 million, with 99 percent of current applications completed. 2,471 Lake County residents have applied for FEMA funds.
To date, FEMA has inspected nearly 2,500 sites, made 2,149 visits to Lake County Disaster Recovery Centers, contacted 567 local businesses and spoken with 7,000 people affected by the wildfires.
“While we are pleased with the level of registrations that we’ve completed, we recognize there’s still more to be done,” Solomon said. “We pledge to be here as long as it takes.” ##
