Editor’s Note: On November 20, 2013 the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) sent out another notice, warning their members about scams that are targeting potential trade show attendees. Here below is the meat of their message, between the — lines, quoting their email.

Subject Line: …Beware of Scams Targeting Trade Shows
Headline: Special Notice Regarding Scams Targeting the 2014 National Congress & Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing
“Please beware of scams that target trade shows. Global Housing Services, Corp. continues to send emails from reservations@globalhousingcorp.com noting that they are accepting reservations for the National Congress & Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing to be held on April 29th – May 1st, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. A member had received a telephone call from this same group several weeks ago claiming that they were calling from Caesars Palace. They were offering a rate of $179 for Caesars Palace and stated that all prices are on a first-come first-serve basis, availability is limited and that they were entitled to receive a 5% discount on their second booking with Global Housing Group.
This company is not authorized to represent MHI, nor do they have access to official contracted hotel room blocks or rates on behalf of MHI. For your own protection, please do not make reservations through any unknown housing or travel company.
Caesars Palace is the contracted hotel for the 2014 National Congress & Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing and the early-bird rate is $119 per night (plus tax).”

The potential lessons here are many, and it is not our intent to editorialize, other than to underscore MHI’s point, that attendees should be sure they are registering with genuine industry events and venues.
MHI’s Congress and Expo has there own official website, just as the LouisvilleManufacturedHousingShow.com have their own official website, and sources for official releases from various trade groups, such as MHProNews.com.
It is thus safest to stick with events information brought to you via a trustworthy “offical” source.
When in doubt, please contact the event sponsor. ##
