The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) notes the irony of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) prosecuting the operators of MHCs in Minnesota and Alabama for discriminating against minorities when in fact HUD routinely discriminates against potential manufactured home buyers by making it more difficult and costly to finance a manufactured home consumers can afford. MHARR rightly observes that, in its actions and regulatory policies, HUD for the industry to fulfill HUD’s own mission of providing affordable housing for millions of Americans. Says MHARR, “The industry’s post-production sector should be similarly engaged, collectively, independently and directly – on a pro-active basis – to change this and make manufactured housing a key part of the solution to the nation’s housing needs.”
