Tight Squeeze for Modular Homes

The Rapid City Journal in South Dakota reports the Box Elder Planning and Zoning Commission wants developer Bob Akers to rethink his plans to replace the 125-site Wagon Wheel Village MHC with 166 modular homes spaced ten feet apart. Located just east of Rapid City, the local government has no rulings concerning population density, but the current statute requires 20 feet between manufactured homes in a community, and that could be amended. The commissioners also raised concerns about police and fire access, parking, useable outdoor space, and storm water drainage. Akers was not at the meeting. MHProNews.com has learned he previously wanted to build apartments but was unable to obtain financing.
