EarthTechling reports the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) bought two 1,500 square foot, multi-section manufactured homes now placed at its Richland, Washington, facility for energy experiments. One will serve as the baseline representing an average existing home in the area. The other home will be outfitted with energy efficient, highly-insulated windows for six months to determine performance. The second phase will center around energy efficient appliance usage. Occupancy will simulate normal household activity in each home. The goal is to determine the combination of technologies that produce the best energy efficiency.
