There are any number of issues that arise day-by-day that impact manufactured housing that may have little or nothing to do with the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI). Something similar could be said of several key MHI member companies.
That’s reality.
That said, it is MHI that has taken upon itself the mantle of representing all segments of manufactured and factory-built housing segments. That is also reality.
- Does that MHI’s claim include the interests of the millions of residents living in land-lease communities? Have they applied their Code of Ethical conduct yet? If not, why not?
- Does that MHI claim of representing all segments of manufactured housing include the interests of independents apart from the larger conglomerates that dominate MHI?
- Has MHI taken seriously the pledge of former chairman Nathan Smith to be a pro-active rather than a reactive trade body? If so, why does the MHI continue to be blindsided or slow to respond to vexing issues like the downturn in production, or the rising tide of zoning related issues?
- Has MHI ever seriously considered applying the good argument made by their former chairman Tim Williams?
- If so, why are there so many examples of fake news about the industry?

When will MHI begin to post on their own website the key evidence of good laws that are not being properly enforced by federal officials?
Why did William ‘Bill’ Matchneer, J.D, end up separating from a law firm that MHI reportedly used on several occasions, after Matchneer confirmed on a Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC) conference call his consistent view that enhanced preemption was a key element of the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000?
Are key members and/or staff of MHI working in collusion with specific people at HUD, FHFA, or the GSEs to keep good laws from being fully and properly enforced?
When will MHI move beyond photo ops to measurable performance that addresses the interests of millions of Americans and thousands of independent businesses?
Will MHI and/or key board members of theirs publicly discuss and debate the claims and allegations that have been lodged against them and those in league with them?

MHI? Will you hold your own members to your self-proclaimed code of ethical conduct?
Or is that code of conduct just more window dressing for those who don’t pay close attention?
