The Virginia Manufactured and Modular Housing Association (VAMMHA) tells MHProNews a new law that took effect July 1 alters the process for converting manufactured homes (MH) to real property, and also allows homes to be retitled once they have been severed from real property. Conversion requires surrendering the title to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which will confirm the title has been canceled, and that combined with an affidavit of affixation will confirm the home is real property. Re-titling an MH requires filing a affidavit of severance at the courthouse along with proof that the home has been severed. More detailed information from the DMV should be forthcoming shortly. As in other states, the ownership of manufactured homes continues to be under the auspices of the motor vehicle department. ##
