In today’s market home buyers want more for their money. MarketWatch tells MHProNews the top ten items desired by housing shoppers. While MH was not mentioned, those 10 hot buttons could be a road map for more manufactured home sales.
Jeremy Burbank, Vice President of the Demand Institute said: “Overall, people are generally satisfied with their homes, but there are some desires—both discretionary and non-discretionary—holding people back from being completely happy with where they live.”
65% of those covered in the MarketWatch reported survey said that they think it’s important a home be a good long-term investment. 47% said they were satisfied that their current home was a good long-term investment (an 18% gap).
The top ten items home shoppers want?
- Energy Efficient Homes,
- A Renovated Home,
- Updated Kitchens and Finishes,
- Age in Place Features,
- Safe Communities,
- Affordability,
- Pricing,
- More Space,
- Responsive Landlords and
- A Good Investment.
Clearly, with a new manufactured home you don’t have to do updates. Affordabilty, energy-saving features and pricing all ought to be givens. For MH Community operators and developers, the safe neighborhood and responsiveness are clearly important. With the growing senior population, aging in place features also makes sense for those who may be closer to or in retirement.
In a trillion dollar a year U.S. housing market, doesn’t it make sense for manufactured home professionals to set sights targets higher? ##
