“It is one thing to get off the road. It is another thing to throw away the map.” – Fulton Sheen. In the decades before dashboard GPS, or aps such as Google or Apple Maps, there were foldable paper maps. A driver or the navigating passenger had to find the spot on the map where they were in order to then be able to plan the route which they would take to their destination. To help someone ‘read’ or better understand those paper maps, there were ‘legends.’ The legend visually illustrated the details that each map used to convey its insights. In our time, that may seem moot because a GPS or map ap does more and often does so automatically once parameters (tolls or no tolls, etc.) are selected. But there are still lessons to learn from those older tools of navigation. Those lessons ought to be generously applied to manufactured housing. Because one of the articles found below in the week that was is a prediction by an industry insider that the industry will never recover to its prior glory days, much less surpass them.
Challenging that Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) insiders’ notion is a new Masthead. It brings a vision for the future grasped by millionaires who want to be billionaires. That plan could make manufactured housing, per MAMA, could purportedly make manufactured housing a trillion dollar industry in a decade.
Another headline for the week below is a new post on MHLivingNews. Ilana Mercer explains the connection between a lack of affordable housing and homelessness. Mercer gives specific details and insights, that are complimented by relevant editorial insights with manufactured housing in mind.
The indictment of deposed President Donald J. Trump merits a footnote not available on the day that report was published. Right-leaning Newsmax this morning reports on a poll that says that post-indictment, Trump’s lead is now 30 points. Left-leaning Axios says that the Trump campaign has raised $5 million dollars in just 48 hours since the indictment was announced. While every major candidate has PACs and big pocket donors, OpenSecrets says that small donors have been big sources for funding for both major parties in the 2020 election cycle.
Whatever the outcome of the charges against Trump, what is apparent is that millions of Americans are quite capable of supporting a cause or candidate that they believe in. Millions have done so even in an era when the hand of ‘big brother’ seems to weigh more heavily than at any other time in American history. Attorney and nonprofit leaders John and Nisha Whitehead’s column, linked below among the Daily Business News headlines, advises that circus politics are meant to distract us. So, don’t allow yourself to be distracted.
The metaphorical cartographic ‘legend,’ the ‘roadmap’ for growth is emblazoned on the new Masthead.
But the various threats to manufactured housing are also found among the reports linked below.

Postscript
A key part of what sets the dynamic duo of MHLivingNews and MHProNews platforms apart from all other trade publications in MHVille is that we authentically peer at an array of facts, known evidence, research reports, and data from an array of sources. We look at information and claims from sources that spans the left-center-right divides in the U.S.
In curating and providing content, we do not merely burp it out uncritically. For years, MHProNews/MHLivingNews has provided an expert analysis with most of our new reports. Doing so still respects the reader’s ability to weigh the evidence and reasoning for themselves.
A close look at the new Masthead linked here and above should reveal the obvious. Despite the very real risk that manufactured housing could slide backward, perhaps even into oblivion, there are tremendous opportunities. These are not going to fall into someone’s lap. They will only be obtained by those with the intellect, resources, and will to challenge the status quo.
What will happen to our once far larger profession? Time alone will tell. But when MHProNews first began to publish the industry was about half of its current production levels. Meaning, the industry more than doubled from 2009-2010 to 2022. Growth is obviously possible. But what are the limits of growth? Sound information and the proper mental attitude are important in order to tap into the millions of opportunities that third-party research reveals exists at this very moment in time.
But the industry is still at a low ebb. The metaphorical ‘map’ the ‘legend’ reveals that some paths will lead to growth. Others will lead to continued shrinking and more consolidation.
Sad to say, the bulk of the other significant bloggers and publishers are firmly ensconced under the influence of the industry’s consolidators. When you wonder why they don’t cover the industry in anything like the manner found here, look no further than who they are metaphorically ‘sleeping with.’ Some may ‘serve’ independents, but they do so while kissing the ring of the powers that be that apparently operate the Manufactured Housing Institute as the oligopoly style Monopolistic Housing Institute (both MHI).
Cheerleading has its place. But without a complete understanding of the landmines and the opportunities, what is keeping manufactured housing in check, and what could unleash the brightest possible outcomes requires facts, evidence, insights and authentic advocacy. Among the headlines above, Washington University in St. Louis law professor Daniel R. Mandelker said: “A support organization is needed that can provide litigation and legislative support to help manufactured housing advocates with zoning reform.” The possible acknowledgments mentioned connection by Mandelker to Clayton Homes is explored. That coincidentally sounds oddly similar to what the leaders of the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) said was needed in the post-production side.
With record federal, and often state, level spending, nevertheless, America faces what BlackRock’s Larry Fink called the polycrisis. There is an array of topics explored on MHProNews/MHLivingNews based on the runaway largest known collection of facts, evidence, and expert analysis found anywhere in MHVille trade media. Our publications explore thinkers and sources from across the left-center-right divides. Why? Because the status quo is obviously troubling. Failing to consider options not being followed by many of the industry’s leaders will only yield more of the same. MHProNews believes the evidence is clear. While there are internal and external hurdles to growth, robust, sustainable and profitable growth is possible. Indeed, it takes a level of evil genius to keep the industry performing at its currently low level.
Watch for a special report in the days ahead. The roadmap has never been tossed at MHProNews/MHLivingNews. Our goal from early on was to support manufactured home industry growth in a sustainable and ethical fashion. That remains our goal. Apparently, the mix of insights and reports found here has attracted and kept the runaway largest known audience of manufactured home industry focused professionals anywhere. We do not take that trust lightly. With thanks to our sources and supporters, that make this possible. ##
