“Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not something to be waited for. It is something to be achieved.” William Jennings Bryan. As we move into a new year – who or what is in control of your life, your future, and your destiny? The past? A previous or current relationship? A former mistake, failure, or success? A recent accomplishment? Avoidance of rejection? Or – – – something or someone else? Everyone lives each minute of each day according to a few rules, expectations, beliefs, behaviors, and/or attitudes. Some of them are the need for the approval of others, the passion to contribute, the need for survival, the hope for success and happiness, the desire for security. And so many others. This year what will be a few of the primary current or past contributors – either people or circumstances that will have a significant impact on your future life and destiny?
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream Discover – while you still can” Mark Twain. This quote relates to – far too many people. They wait, they, make excuses, they blame, they lack courage, they live with guilt and regret or they focus on the wrong goals or motives. I know, I am guilty. As life proceeds, the price of this approach is too high. Waiting is stupid. Dreams, goals, hopes, plans, and desires happen only when we act. We are here for a short time and then we are gone forever. What are you waiting for? What are you putting off? What are your excuses to fix, change, start, or stop something in your life? Who are you waiting for and why? Oh, so many questions!
“Logical consequences are the scarecrows of fools and the beacons of the wise.” Thomas Huxley. Every action, choice, decision, attitude, behavior and yes inaction has a consequence. Some happen immediately while others can take years to play out. Some outcomes are positive while others are negative. We can’t control every outcome from every circumstance but we can do our part to try and contribute to better consequences. The approach we use is what matters. Your choices – you can only use your mind, education, and experience. You can only use your heart and emotions or you can only use your divine guidance. The answer to improving the life consequences and outcomes that are within your control is – using all three as a guide – a blending of mind, heart, and spirit as you choose, decide and act and move into your future hoping for better life outcomes.
