Several residents of The Woodlands manufactured home community (MHC) in Lockport, New York were told two years ago that the owner of their community would repair cracks that had begun appearing in the walls, ceilings and floors of their manufactured homes (MH). Although Equity LifeStyle Properties owns the community, but did not originally sell them the homes, nevertheless has agreed to spend up to $20,000 to repair each home.
According to wivb4 the residents say they owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth. Pearl Jones has had work done to her home but she says it is in worse shape than before the repairs started. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman worked out an agreement with Equity LifeStyle to fix the nine homes. He says the homes were assembled incorrectly, as MHProNews has learned.
A spokesperson for Equity said repairs have begun on one of the homes. In an email the company said, “Work on two additional homes has been scheduled to begin later this month. We are prepared to schedule work for the remaining homes as soon as the homeowners indicate to us they are ready to proceed.” ##
