Friends and supporters of a West Kelowna, B.C., Canada, couple evicted from the Jubilee Mobile Home Park have organized a yard sale to help raise money. Ross Arnott and Ed Schneider have until April 1 to move or vacate their manufactured home in the community on Westbank First Nation land where they have lived since 2007.
InfoNewsCanada tells MHProNews they have been fighting with the owner of the community, Princess Management, since January 2014 when they received notice the garage they were using was being reclaimed as a maintenance building. It has since escalated to an eviction notice from the manufactured home community management.
The couple says they have also been threatened with legal fees incurred by the management, and are looking for a new community for their $300,000 home, but haven’t had any luck. They said they are also considering fighting their eviction in court, although it would cost a minimum of $20,000 in legal fees, money they don’t have.
That’s where fundraising efforts on Fundrazr.com, and now the yard sale, come in. So far, the online campaign has raised more than $10,000. The community yard sale will be held March 6 and 7. A Facebook page has also been created. ##
