Yom Kippur 2019 will begin in the evening of Tuesday, October 8 and ends in the evening of Wednesday, October 9. “Yom Kippur (Hebrew: יוֹם כִּפּוּר or יום הכיפורים), Also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jews. … Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days (or sometimes “the Days of Awe”)…” says the Hebcal website.
Chabad, another website focused on Jewish religious practices, says: “Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, when we are closest to G‑d…”
The World Population Review website says that some 2 percent of the U.S. population is Jewish. So, in numbers of places of business, some of your co-workers are Jewish, or you may be Jewish yourself. The 45th president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka Trump are Jewish. Some of our previous colleagues at MHProNews and industry friends are Jewish.
This video provides a useful summary of the practices of Yom Kippur. Christians will find some of the practices of interest and will remind you of elements of your own faith.
At the end of the day, without the inspiration to do what’s right, laws alone will never be enough. So days like today, in an era of misinformation and corruption, are important.
To our Jewish colleagues, G’mar Tov.
